The Shaker Chair

Long recognized as a Shaker symbol, the Shaker chair is light weight and yet sturdy and comfortable. Each chair rung or rail tennon is turned oversized and then squeezed to fit the mortise on the leg without breaking the wood fibre. When glued, the tennon expands to its original size and is locked into place. This gives the strongest join possible. These chairs are made to last a lifetime.

Shaker tape is used on all our Shaker ladder-back chair seats. It is a tough canvas-warp, cotton-weave narrow tape that will not stretch and is colour-fast and light-fast. Tapes are available in a variety of solid and striped colours.
